One of the most common mistakes people make when they are trying to use rewards to train their dogs is that they reward their dog too often. Some people think you should reward your dog every time they do what you ask, but that couldn’t be farther from the truth.
If you reward your dog every time they do what you ask, you will be teaching them to expect a reward every time, and you will be giving them zero incentive to improve or follow your instructions promptly. You’ll be training your dog to only listen to you when you have a treat on hand and you will be training them to ingore you when they are busy.
